3rd gen fuel problem... maybe??
So, went to start the maro today, and it would turn over but would not commit to run... tried to start her a few more times and nothing. came back about 3 hours later, i finally got her to stay running but it seems as everytime i go to press the gas she wants to shut off until i let off the gas. any ideas of what could be causing this, i took her out sat nite and didn't have any problems with the way shes running. this all started this mornin...

Ideas consist of, but not limited to: fuel pump going bad, clogged fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator problem, bad gas, restricted catalytic converter, filthy air filter, loose/corroded ignition connection.
It might help if we knew what engine you have.

my 91 did that , just listen for the fuel pump, if it kicks on its prob not that. i changed my fuel pump, and filter and it didnt work. I tested my injectors, and what had happend is one was cracked, and it shorted out the others. Thats something to look into.

you need fuel, spark and air
since it's not a bad idea, and relatively inexpensive and quite easy to do, replace the fuel filter to begin.
Air is easy to verify intake (remove air cleaner housing if still stock)
Exhaust being restricted is a little more tricky to verify but not all that difficult
so, that leaves spark and fuel delivery
when did you last replace plugs, wires, cap, rotor ?
It's not a bad idea to do that anyway and again, relatively inexpensive.
now you hit the basic maintenance stuff and if it still won't fire, you can troubleshoot for the more complex items such as fuel pump, ICM, injectors etc
one more thing, do you have more than 1/4 tank of gas?
