I had a 1988 2.8l 6cyl rs camaro. My friends and I just took out the engine and tranny tonight we are powerwashing the inside and we took most of the wires out because im going carbed. I am just learning about cars and I bought a 350 thats bored out .80 more or something. I just would like to know what this all means and what kind of engine it is

 

From what you are telling us. You bought a 350 cubic inch engine, hopefully a Chevy V8 small block engine. The .80 overbore means that the cylyders have been bored out 0.800" bigger, which if it is true, its has some pretty thin cylinder walls, and prone to cracking.

I hope that this 350 block is a 4 bolt main cap. If it is .... sounds like it'd be a radical engine ... might wanna invest in having it balanced and blueprinted ... Engine will run and last a lot longer.

thats something im lost with. wtf is blueprinting? I hear the word and i think layouts to buildings. Thats what archetecture does to ya..

 

yeah like zero said definetly get it balanced while you have the engine out, and if its a 4 bolt main you got 350 or bigger if itsa 2 bolt main its only a 305

 

Short explaination of engine Blueprinting is the inspection of all major engine parts so they are within design specifications &tolerances.

 

I think the engine would be bored .080 over not .8 regardless it has got to be on the edge like pete is saying unless its an aftermaket block. If the engine is together I would just run it if you tear it down to blue print and balance it you could damage the cylinder walls or piston rings requiring honing making it even scarier. If it is apart have the cylinder walls sonic checked for thickness..
