i know ive been told to get a t350 tranny cuz i have the 700r4 and i was plainning on a 400-425 engine how much would i need to spend on mods to get that little bit of extra handleage hp...instead of spending 1200 dollars like jr. Mec. and getting 600 out of it could i spend 500 and get 450 or something etc? anyone catching what im trying to get at money is very tight but i dont want to waste my tranny in a couple months and have to buy a new one when i could pay a few hundred dollars and be guaranteed but like i said money is still very tight even for the few hundred dollars..so feed back people lol

While the TH400 is pretty much bullet proof, you lose gobs of power through it due to it's giant rotating mass.
If it's your DD, don't skimp on the transmission and swap to a TH350 because it's stronger stock. I have no regrets about building my 700R4 (other than not doing a T56 swap.) I can get on the highway and cruise at 75MPH while keeping my RPM's below 2500.
You'll need some type of aluminum racing radiator for that much power. I'm running a new stock radiator but it holds up fine for my 350hp. Remember, the more power you produce, the more heat you're producing as well.
Sinclair: I got a deal at $1200. A typical stock rebuild is at least that. To have a reliable transmission with that kind of power, you're looking at around $1000-2000+, and again, the transmission is NOT a place you want to skimp on.
At the very least, you would want to install a shift kit, stall converter, auxiliary cooler, inline filter, and a new set of bands/clutches with a higher holding capacity than stock. The shift kit should keep those new clutches together well enough for 400hp.

yea and i got a shift kit for a th350 for a 100 $ if i want it....but anyways overall you think it would be better to build up a stock 700r4 than to get a th350
