325 HP 305!!! MUST READ

I've had C3 Vette's: 78,79 and 3 69's (still have one). They all ride like a pickup truck, but handle a little better than one. My old C4's, 87 & 92 are light years beyond in handling over the C3, and will run circles around a 4th gen Camaro, had a couple of them as well.

87 to 96 were better then 84 to 86 ,it all comes down to certain years in 74 the 454 could still be had though , ,you put a super charger in 2002 ls1 engine an it will take most all those vettes stock ,it all came down to ceratin years, just like my 95 will probley beat 2002 stock ss with 100 more hp an 150 tlbs in my 406,thats why on my bucket list besides a BBC in 92 3rd gen back to a 77 2 gen camaro ,my next one will be an ls1 car 2002 but 98-02 will be fine super charger some ls3 goodies can get 600 hp or close .seen a 2002 ss blue the other day 23000 miles 12k make offer 10 k would be an ok deal with the low miles but i think i can do better if i wait a few years ,but i been known to be spontanious ,sometimes you can get them already set up with all the good stuff ,but i would rather start stock,i like the looks of the new stingray though an over 400hp being so light are pretty fast an the pop up lights are finaly gone a few years back too, dont quote me to exact years an #s quote man

Huge difference between early and late 1970's and hp ratings before 1972 were at the crank not net.As I said late 70's were dogs. Things went downhill fast in 1973 due to the EPA. The Vettes built in '83 were just early 84's. There was no '83 model. The C 4 was a faster better handling car despite its shortcomings, the digital dash sucked in the early C4 cars and there were other shortcomings but overall a lot better car. Again I owned one.

Yes the '87's were better than the '84's but any C4 would run circles around a late C3. By 1992 they got the LT1 engine so '92-'96 was a big step up in power. Camaros got the LT one year later,I had a '93 Z28 and in a straight line it would have beat my '84 Vette.

if one found out an they found out fast how easy is was to get rid of smog control an make it look like it was still there ,all those cars now fall exsempt in most states these days anyway ,from 95 on back hear in my state, last year i was surpirized to see that near half of the 52 states dont have inspections at all ,if they do little to nothing ,like i did hear someone said ,some states only have 1 every 3 to 5 years,an that new cars should go to 5 years without ,but states like NH that have inspections every year visual for 95 an older an smog 96 an newer so if my car was a 96 the 406 would not be a street car only race ,but its couse they know people would break the rules in the middle years,an some states your car can be falling apart an they dont care

the 454 is not very popular anymore now anyway, but if one wants to have a monster yes they have to rebuild them or find a good crate engine ,rebuilds generally cost more then a good crate engine made bye a good engine builder ,unless one is doing all the work them self even then parting an engine together allways cost more

I would not worry too much about matching numbers or even if it was a true RS. The reality is there are so many 3rd generation Z28 in so many configuration made for SO many years that none Z28s are never going a highly sought after cars. This means your free to do whatever you like with it. With most cars upgrades can devalue a car but a correctly done base model Camaro upgraded to a L98 would increase the value IMO. The L98 350 automatic with the 3.42 gears was a fun car to drive. I still remember driving the first one that hit our chevy lot in 87. All new cars must be inspected and driven by a GM certified tech before any customers can drive them. I had driven dozens of the TPI 305's and even the 305 5/speed I was amazed at the difference. If I remember right I had already had to rebuild a blown 305 TPI car before the first 350 TPI car showed up.
It is kind of funny GM claimed the L98 only had about 2% increase in HP and torque over the TPI 305 yet they would not sell the L98 350 with a 5 speed because the engineers said it could not handle the torque. Really? transmission can not handle 2% torque increase LOL.

Hey Gorn. In America where you guys have ample access to parts and conversion kits, sliding in an LS is simple. However when your down in OZ with next to no back up for parts and or conversion options (LS conversion in Australia is around 15K AUD) keeping the cars with the original number engines and bodies allows the cars to have a better resale value. Im going to put an LS in my 3rd 3rd gen in the future. but ill do it once my RS and Iroc are on the road. Hence I like the idea of the hotted up 305 to a 334...………..
If you are worried about value and original numbers matching be carful with the 305. Those things are weak compared to any other small block. They spun bearing bone stock under warranty. I asked a GM engineer why we were seeing so many engine failures, he said they made the block as light as possible for better fuel mileage back in the 70's (rated about 150 hp) There not much you can do to make a block stronger. Due to casting variation you will get weak one and stronger ones so it is luck of the draw.
