Default 305 heads on LT1?

I have found a LT1 block and was wondering if the heads off my 305 HO will fit on it or if I will have to get different heads.

they will fit, but you would only be able to run them for a very short period of time before your motor blows (or have to clean the carbon off of your pistons, valves etc. i heard lots of dirt car racer use them on 350's for like a weekend to get more compression. might not be able to use straight pump gas either depending on your compression ratio.

ok. What would be the best heads to run on it? I will be taking it to the track on the weekends and it is also my daily driver.

LT1 heads.

Just to be clear we're talking early LT1 from the 1970's correct? not a '90's LT1.
What will be the best heads kinda depends on what you have for internals and bolt on's,IE pistons, compression ratio, cam specs, rotating assembly rpm range, intake manifold and carb, etc.
The LT1 motors were 4 bolt main steel cranks with high compression pistons and a bum-pity bump solid lifter cam as well as an aluminum high rise intake and Holley carb.
The stock heads had the 2.02" intake valves so if you are planning on a similar build you'll want to go with a set of 2.02's like the stock LT1 heads or something better like Trick Flow or Edlebrock aluminum heads.
A milder build and you could use a set of 1.94's off a more standard 4 barrel carb'd 350 but you don't want a set of 305 heads of any kind.

if its just a stock lt1 maybe find a set of 64cc vortec heads or set of cammel humps 1.94/1.5 or 2.02/1.6 valves that should wake it up a bit with a decent cam/lifter set. but i was told to stay away from the 76cc (624, 882 etc.) heads if you want more hp.

I really wonder how many younguns know there was such a thing in the early 70's?
Plus he was asking about an LT1. The 70's engine was an LT-1.
