Hey guys! I need some help in getting my 86 back to smoothrunning. First, I was doing a tune-up this weekend and went to replace the fuel filter on the side of the carb and realized that the two bolts are seized. I haven't tried really cranking on the bolts, but I will try tomorow after work again when I can pick up a couple of right wrenches for the job. The metal fuel line that runs into the fuel filter, however, I noticed is pinched from someone else trying to do the same thing that I did. I have noticed the usual hesitation when I step on the gas from the choke needing to be messed with, but do you guys think that the line is robbing power from the carb? And if so, Is that a piece that can be replaced OEM or is it just a cut piece of universal tubing?
My other question concerns a rattling noise that seems to be coming from under the car near the Cat. It is more noticablewhen the car is moving and quiets when the gas is applied, but as soon as you let your foot off and coast, It is as loud as ever. It sounds like someone shaking an empty coke can with a rock inside it. Anyone else have that problem? Any ideas would really help!

in reply to the rattling noise...take a look under the car (when cold) and check the guard around the cat and see if it is loose. I had that problem but it just needed a clamp so its good now.

Yea i went to change the fuel filter the other day, and i couldnt get the line loose, so i gave up lol. The rattling noise could be something loose, or it could be a leak. I had a bad leak in my old camaro that sounded kinda like what your described.

Jack up the car and thump on the exhaust. It mat be the cat broke inside or maybe the hanger is broke...
The fuel line may be a pain to bend a new one around to fit. You could get a barbed fitting that fits inside the filter end to replace the line and use rubber hose. Or, Get an Earls fitting that replaces the fuel filter and use erals hose and in line filter. That would be pimping your ride

if you have the ability, rebend a new piece of tubeing. its probably slowing fuel flow down a bit depending on the size of the dent. If your not any good at bending, you can always use the steel braded tubeing to replace the whole thing and move the filter elsewhere.
