2.8l pretty much junk
well to start off im new to the forums but not to cars..... i have a buit 88 camaro 5-speed but a dam 2.8 in the dam thing i hate it... i was thinkin maybe gettin a newer bigger 6 banger and redoin the engine get some power outta it or jus goin with a 350 or 383 stroker. I was wonderin how much of a hassel would it be to do a v8 swap? thanks
welcome to the forum slovik... look a page or two back and im sure you will see about a million posts regarding a v-8 swap. MAINLY it includes new ECM, harness, engine (obviously), the mounts, and a tighter front suspension. Also a new bell housing. But look for the others just a few pages back, im sure they are there. asking exactly what you are right now.
i dont think a 383 would fit, i have a 89 305, the biggest engine they had and these cars was the 350... i mean the 383 might fit but it would be really tight. so make sure you look into it more before you jump to conclusions. i would reccomend the 350, its a good size engine, good compromise between fuel mileage and horsepower, seeing what gas prices are these days it scares me. and theres PLENTY of parts for a 350 engine. but yeah, a v6 camaro is pretty much junk, ruins the title the camaro has as a "muscle car"
the 305 and 350 use a different block but the same crankshaft (3.480 sroke). the 383 is a 350 block bored .030 over with a 400 crankshaft (3.750 stroke). the exturnal dimensions of the 305, 350 and 400 are the exact same, the difference is the bore size. ...and just changing the bellhousing on the trans won't cut it. the 88 T5 was VERY weak. if you put anything more than a stock 305 in front of ....it will break , with very little abuse. your best bet would be to find a WCT5 from a 89-92 , they will hold a mild 350 or 383 with little problems.
well thanks for all the info but im gunna build up the 2.8 n the rear and a new clutch c what i could get it to push n goining to build a 350 from the block up makein it insane for my senior project
