if its going to be a stock 350, you can get away using a t-5. if you are doing anything more to it like cam, heads, drag racing, the t-5 wont handle that abuse for long. the later the year the trans come from, the stronger it will be. and it will have to be from a v8 f-body so it has the correct bellhousing and torque arm mount. the swap to carb is another thing all on its own, and someone else can help with that

Yea I really don't plan on building this motor, I mean new heads would be the max.... like I said this is my first swap and I initially want to get it DONE and it so from there I can pull back out and swap trannys and build, what would be a good tranny to withstand more torque for a manual???

Um, this is where everybody tells me Im being a ****......if this is your FIRST engine swap experience.....going from a 2.8 V6 to a 5.7 V8 is a HUGE undertaking that requires SOOO much more than just dropping a treefiddy under the hood. What kind of mechanical background do you have, and more importantly.....what kind of budget are you looking at?

and to add to his note, do you have a garage to work in and the appropriate tools?

and to add to his note.......this IS NOT a bolt on operation. Most all the electronics need to be swapped out. Its not a plug and play operation. We aren't trying to talk you out of it, we are just trying to tell you that unless you have several years experience, the right tools and deep pockets, that a V6 to V8 conversion just isnt practical.

yes to agree it is not an
easy job. You must change everything from cooling to trans. When i swapped out a v6 in an 83model to a 350 it was a hard job and was not cheap.

Mind me asking why exactly you want to swap to a carb rather than fuel injection? If you don't plan on building the engine, then why swap to a carb? Is it TBI or TPI?

the 2.8 was mpfi. you know the rest. carb is just cheaper and a bit easier when swapping
