Default 1991 hatch mechanism

Need help!! My son has a 1991 RS the hatch motor continues to run. The hatch will not catch. The one that pulls it down. Any Suggestions?????
I have a 1990 RS convertible also which still works great.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wih some research on this sight which lead me to Top Down Solutions where a guy said a new $10 gear nut should solve the problem. He said it sounds like the teeth were shot. I also ordered a new set of glides since they were in pieces when I took the mechanism apart.

I had this problem aswell .... but for the time being. I just unplugged the motor for the hatch, so it wouldnt run down my battery.

where can you get the guides? The 89 I have the guides are shot and the hatch will no longer catch at all... the motor etc... have slide all the way down?

Thanks

same problem wth my 89, you can order a rear hatch rebuild kit with reinforced parts for about 100 bucks, there four screws holding that rear panel on and then you remove the entire rear hatch assembly a couple bolts, you obviously gotta disconnect the wiring harnesses. then you remove it rebuild, reinstall it. bam your good to go. fyi, i did this over a year ago so i cant remember exactly how its done it comes iwth instructions, howver theres something that spins out make sure to count the amount of turns it takes to spin it out it should be 7 or 8 if you dont then it wont work atall. use white lithium grease. fairly easy fix.

I bought a used hatch motor off of ebay a couple weeks ago. Got it yesterday, installed it in about 10 minutes, works great. Cost me $75 buck with S&H.
