83 hatch lock key wore out..update... which way does the key turn to open the hatch?

i need to know if someone knows how to open the hatch on my 83 without the key, and it doesnt have an electric latch either... can i just dremel the guts out of the latch and then turn it that way and pop the hatch open to replace the lock with a new one?

i think it's to the right, i have a 89 with the same problem, i took off the plastic panels from the inside and there was a spot that you can turn with a flat head that opens it, then when it opens you turn it back that ensures that it locks when u close it.
