You do not need to drop the tank or take out the old pump ( disconect the electricle to it) use the return line from the EFI to feed the mech pump and carb. the return line is the same length as the electric intank pump. This will save you a ton of time and aggravation in dropping that tank.

 

any chance you have a link for that block mounted fuel pump? I am switching because i want one camaro carbed one with efi and one with tpi just because i love camaros. that and my favorite way to make mom and dad mad is tell them that i will have a camaro for each day of the week. (gotta start somewhere after i build my house it will be month then year)

 

the return line doesnt go down far enough into the tank.

 

That's what I'm saying too. When I was inside my tank, the only one going to the bottom of the tank (what you need) was the pump/supply pickup.
And check the engine block. An FI engine most likely isn't going to have provisions for installing a mechanical fuel pump. Maybe if it's a transition year engine, but otherwise not likely. Then you'll need to keep the electric pump and install a return type fuel pressure regulator before the carb. Unless you want to drop the tank and do a pump bypass.

 

But in the end your gonna be glad that you did a bypass and installed the pump on the side of the block, because if the pump would ever go bad your gonna have to cut your exhaust off (unless they are ran really wide) and drop the tank then re-do your exhaust.
So really its gonna save you TIME and MONEY.
