Default 1988 Camaro V.6 -help.

Hey guys i have 4 questions.

My camaro saids 52097 miles i know its not that much since its a 88 so i was wondering is their any way to find out how many times it rolled over?

I was wondering.. My dad washes his Underhood of his sequoia very often the dealership said its good for all the stuff under the hood of the car to stay clean all the stuff around the engine and the engine itself.

Well my main question being since thats a 2001 toyota i was wondering if it is safe to clean my underhood engine area and it surroundings with a hose or is it better to use a rag. Was just wondering.

2nd question.
Ive noticed when i drive the camaro i smell gas, and my gas went by fast i know it might be a leak or something but i cant find any gas leaks on the garage.... but can it possibly be that the gas has been sitting their for a year thats why it ran out so fast? Im just trying to find the cause and where i should look.

3rd question.

The camaro is a manual. When i shift 1st and 2nd gears their is a loud screech it sounds like the gears are grinding. But thats only 1st and 2nd gear.. 3rd 4th 5th doesnt make the sound. I was wondering if anyone here had that problem? Ive heard clutches/gearboxes are very expensive to fix

some pics NEWER ones at top

Hey man, welcome.
Ok,
there is no WAY to know how many times it rolled over, unless the previous owner had documentation??? But you can use logical reasoning, you would no if the car only had 50,000 miles on it cause that would be worth an extra buck, and I dont think the car would have 250, it's probable 150.
Don't spray your underhood! third gens don't have the best electrical system, many times relays and wires can be completely unprotected; I would stick to using a wet rag.
Now I wouldn't think that it has a gas leak cause you would smell it and see it in the driveway... Do you only smell it when it's running? Also gas that was sitting for a year probable should have been drained, gas shouldn't be used only after 2 months of sitting...

Now the screeching, I could be your clutch slipping; you'll just need to replace it... The lower gears are much more power to the clutch, so that may be why it only slips in 1st gear. Check your transmission oil level, make sure that its good, and it should be a clear pink or light red color, if it's murky change it.

clutch can range from $90 to a few hundred.

You said a screech, Ive never heard a clutch screech, are you sure your not barking the tires. Need more details. Clutches slip they dont screech. Pressure plates can clank, u-joints clank, gears whine, tires screech.

As for the fuel, look for a fuel leak when the car is running. Check around the fuel rail. May be leaking onto the intake or exhaust and it would burnup before hitting the foor.
Also, the car may just run rich.

i sprayed my motor but i bagged my distributor and covered as many of the electrical componets as i could so i can get the bulk of it clean but like someone else said you need to be careful when doing this.
