Default 1986 Z28 Camaro High Rev

I have a 1986 Chevrolet Camaro 305 Carb Edelbrock Performer Series Carb.

If you even touch the gas it shoots to 7000 RPM and accelerates slowly.

We've had people blame the carb and blame the trans, replaced the Rochester with an Edelbrock, had the transmission rebuilt by Cottman, still doing it.

Any recommendation?

Don't believe everything you read, in this case your stock tach.
Hook up an aftermarket tach, then you'll be able to see what rpm's the engine is really doing.

A 305 revving to 7000 RPM? I'm not sure about that.

Me neither but the RPM reads that high and the acceleration is horrible right now.

A stock 305 falls on it's face after 4500 rpm. If it was really hitting 7 grand, then the engine is heavily modified. And, the car wouldn't be accelerating slowly unless the trans was slipping. What you're describing sounds more like an inaccurate tach. Does your ear know what an engine at 7000 rpm sounds like? Does it make you want to put your fingers in your ears and scream "she's gonna blow"?
The horrible acceleration may be another, unrelated issue. By the way, is there any chance this used to be a v6 car? If so, that explains the why the tach wants to reach for the sky.

Stock v8 305 HO by the VIN, it definitely has a note over my 350 however 7000 would surprise me. Assuming the tach is completely off it is still running high (carb seems tuned in properly) and acceleration is still horrible, any thoughts?

305 engine life expectation at 7000 RPM's is about as long as it take to read this.

Well then at least I know it isn't at 7000, however it almost seems like the car is gunning it when you simply touch the gas and yet no power to the wheels

do you have the throttle valve cable hooked up to the new carb? if not, you might as well buy a new trans
