Default 1983 Camaro tranny problem

Hello..... I am new to this site. My son has a 1983 Camaro, 305 motor w/5 speed manual. The car sat for a couple of years before we bought it. It has64000 miles on it. Shortly after we purchased the carit developed a grinding noise that sounds like it is in the tranny but it's hard to tell. The car shifts perfectlty fine. The noise first started when when we made left hand turns only. It then started happening when you would hit a dip in the road and is now happening all of the time at all speeds. What could this be? I'd say it was in the tranny itself but it shifts sosmoothly that Iwould have to think it iselsewhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds like maybe an axle bearing. If it sat for a while they get dry and will go bad. Does it make the sound at idle? You could jack up the rear and put it in drive and stnad next to the rear wheels and listen for the sound. Hope this helps.
