Hi I am new to the forum and have a couple of questions. I am looking at a 1982 camaro with a built up 350 in it. The car needs the front end put on it he has this part it also needs a new paint job on it. The car is very solid no rust. The engine has chrome on it and really built up, he say it is producing 400 hp. He also told me he has 3000 into the engine. How much would a paint job cost. he wants 2500 for it.

Depends are where you live and where you go and what you want and what is its condition now.........and so on. You may be able to get paint on it for under $200 or you can spend $5000+

 

You belive everything that seller is telling you about the car & engine. It is overpriced and a better deal could be found on a later model car with a factory 350. My personal opinion. until proven wrong, that car is NOT a built up 350 but a 305. Here is a picture of a built up 350 TPI.

Get it dyno tested. Tell him you'll pay for it if his claims are true, and if they are, buy it, of not, I wouldn't trust it. And $3000 seems a little low for 400 horses. Might want to find out exactly what's in there to make that number while you're at it.

 

I talked to the guy about the engine he stated it was out of a 1976 Monte carlo. 350 4 barrell He stated the tranny is a auto 3 spd. turbo 350 how are these. I am going to offere him 1900 for it

I learned something a while ago. Look at a persons house and their demeanor when buying a vehicle. If they look all shabby, if the house is strewn with garbage and spare parts and old washing machines, well, then you know what kind of shape they keep their own belongings in. I know it sounds horribly superficial, but the old term "what you see is what you get" really applies here. Trust your gut.

As far as the price.....I live in upstate NY, and solid older cars are rare here. I got my 82 Camaro with a 305, barely running (desparately needed a carb and tuneup) and solid body, a few dime size spots of surface rust, for 1300 bucks. If I were you, Id offer him a solid 2 grand (thats if it honestly is a running 350) and enjoy it.

I got a better look at the car yesterday and the whole interior is in bad shape. It will all need to be replaced. it has a edelbrok intake on it. It also needs new tires and rims.The body seems solid. the engine sounds good. I dont think it is even worth 2000 I might offer him 1000 for it. Is the interior parts hard to find.

They can be hard to find, but if you look you can find almost anything.

 

The interior varies in dificulty to find depending on what she needs. Alot of it you can buy new from The Paddock (I suggest you get one of their catalogs at your earliest convenience at paddockparts.com) The selection is good, and their prices are fair. I know there are other places out there, but when I was fixing my interior, I found the most complete list of what I needed there.
