Am i better off taking my 70 camaro to a shop to get both quarters replaced or could i do it myself. Is it really that hard of a process or just one that will take time and patience?? Im not the most experienced with a welder but can learn quick.

Well, that depends if you're going to replace the entire quarter I think. I'm a moderate welder and I've done a little body work before but I am by no means a pro. On my 76 and 79, I replaced just the rear fender lips and the lower section behind the tire and it wasn't too bad. Just cut your patch panels etc and take your time making it all smooth. If you are in fact replacing the entire quarter, I personally would take it somewhere because getting the roof, door jam, and trunk lines to all line up well is pretty tough and I'd rather have an experienced body man do it. Just my opinion.

Yeah i would be replacing the entire quarter, im going between trying it myself or getting it done. Its just the 10-14 hours of $74 an hour work that is killing me about taking it somewhere. I guess ill really have to look into it some more.

Well it is true getting everything to fit. Take the new pannel and trace out your cut line and then cut it. You can tack weld it yourself and cut it out yourself, you can save some money that way. Be careful not to warp the pannels. I'd take it somewhere to professional finish it.

See i have no time constraints on the car and im not in a rush. So i figure i would be able to do it as long as i take my time and make sure everything lines up and fits.

Yea, I'm sure if you put in the time and care, you can get it done. If you do decide to have it done professionally, I know Goodmark will do that now for you. You take your car to one of their shops and they'll install the body panels for you and it was a decent price I've heard. Check out their website. But again, I think you could do it if you put in the time. Good Luck!

When you grind the welds, take your time and skim them. It'll seem like it's taking a long time, but the slower you do it, the more even it'll come out with out gouging the metal.

Definatly do it yourself. If you don't already have a welder you should go after a Lincoln or like I did go after a used off brand that is made by Lincoln off of ebay. Be sure to use argon gas it makes a world of a difference of how clean the welds are. Or if you already have a welder or are planning on renting one then have at it and get started.
