Default plz, some advice?

I have a 1998 camaro z28. I took my car to service chevy yesterday for a fast clicking noise when i'm over 3k rpm's. I messed up shifting the other day and wasn't completely in 4th gear (between neutral and 4th) and let off the clutch and my car locked up going about 70 and skid a little, then I started hearing the clicking noise when above 3000 rpms in every gear. Chevy says its my lifters, rocker arm and pushrods. I don't know much about these things. The said it was going to cost 3k for parts and labor. Kinda outrageous to me. Please..any advice? Are they trying to get extra $ out of me?

I am assuming that your engine and not the tranny is doing the clicking right? Chevy may be right but it's hard to tell from the brief discription you gave. Start the engine and see if your clicking noise is coming from the valve cover area. If so then you can have a local shop check the rockers and you can pull the push rods to see if you don't have a bent one. To check the lifters you'll have to pull off the intake. If the noise is coming from the block then you may have a spun bearing. Not good. Also for 3k you can have the entire engine rebuilt and in stalled!! Good luck and I hope this info helped.

LT1RUNNER has the right idea. The engine overevved and probably bent a few things; hopefully, the valves survived.

Like LT1runner said, take it to a shop to have them check it out.

If that is the problem, then you can do that whole lifter change yourself. To change the lifters, you have to loosen the rocker arms (just unscrew them completely) , pull out the pushrods, then the lifters. Well, it takes a little know how with the intake manifold and all, but just take pictures of how everything goes during dissasembly. One thing that might take more precision is the valve adjustment. The whole thing took me about 4 hours to do by myself.

The cost of everything will be way lower than 3 grand. You could even upgrade!
