What oil pan do you use?
What brand, depth and style oil pan are you using in your 2nd Gen. small block Camaro's?
My current oil pan is a stock 7.5" deep (8" at the drain plug) pan. Even the drain plug was an inch or so above the front cross member (measuring from the ground up). In other words, the cross member is lower then the oil pan and would hit before the pan would.
I'd like to use a 7 quart 8 1/4" deep pan. I used one in my last '78 Camaro. That was more of a hi performance/racecar. I had to go slow over bumps and stuff. This Camaro is going to be a daily driver/mild street performance car.
Do you think I could get away with an 8 1/4 deep oil pan for daily use on the street?
Thanks in advance, NYH1!

I am currently using a moroso part no.(mor-20191) 7qt. 8 1/4 inch pan on my 406 dart block, afr headed, procharged chevy small block on the street with no problems with ground clearance in my 81 camaro sport coupe. hope this helps you out.
Does the pan hang below your front cross member at all?
Thanks, NYH1!
I'm using the Summit brand big block pan, but they also sell a small block 7 qt. pan that's very reasonably priced! 8.25" deep and should not have any clearance problems on your Camaro.

That's the oil pan I was looking at. I have to call Summit to see if it will work with my 383 stroker combo (which I forgot to mention
). It says it's not "stroker clearanced". I'm gonna be using 6" Scat stroker rods with "cap screw bolts". From what I've seen, it seems to be the stock rods and bolts that have a hard time clearing the stock oil pan rails with the longer 3.750" stroke crank.

I'm also thinking about using a crank scraper too.

The stroker clearanced pans do cost a few pennies more: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MOR-19190/
Here's a slightly used one on flebay, auction is closing down quickly: Moroso Oil Pan
Here's another good deal: Pan, Pump, & Pickup
I don't know what vintage block you have, so be sure to get a pan that has the dipstick clearance on the correct side.

I don't know if I'd buy a baffle until you get the pan. Most are already baffled, so you might not need it.
Good point on the dipstick! I'd call Summit when ordering and be sure it's on the same side as your block, no matter what pan you buy!
