Question
Okay I have recently got a 79 Z28...... I am just trying to go through and check why its running rough. I notice there is a diaphram by the distributor and there is supposed to be a rod that goes to that to the carb. Does anyone know what this rod is called so I can get it. Thanks Bryan S.

Go to your other post for the answer. One question pertaining to the same subject is all you need to put up. Adding more of the same in different sections just adds to the confusion.

That appears to be a servo for cruise control. that large diaphram is for pulling on the throttle when cruise is activated. It really wont improve
how the car runs at idle unless its binding and wont let it hit base idle.
One diaphram that you might be concerned with for your idle is your choke pull off. It pulls the choke plate open once engine vacuum is present.
Remove the air cleaner,(plug any open vacuum lines from the engine)
If you move the choke plate back and forth you will see the small diaphram that pulls the choke linkage open.
Have a friend start the engine and you should see the choke pull off pull the choke linkage back if not then the diaphram is ruptured and also a vacuume leak. part stores still caary them bring it with you but REMEMBER HOW IT CAME OFF !!!!So you can reinstall !!!

I agree with InI , it's your cruise control. Nothing to do with the rough running

Considering the engine is 30 years old, and if the mileage is somewhat high (75k +) I would change buy a double roller timing chain as I'm sure the nylon coating is well worn off your lower timing gear.
All those vacuum hoses are probably leaking as well.
carb floats could be stuck
fuel pressure may be too low (starving the carb)
have fun.
