Default Problem with motor

just did a motor change on my 80 R/S when i changed it, It seemed to run a bit rough but ran ok. But now it seems it wants to die out hard to keep running and chokes out and back fires and then floods out and soaks the plugs in gas. I have not done the timing with a light just by ear. But even if the timing is out would that flood it out? or is it a carb problem or maybe need new plugs?

Could be a few things. What kind of carb is it?
Make sure your choke is opening up all the way.
Did you rebuild the carb, or has it ever been?
Can you see any gas flooding over inside the carb, while it's running?

Hello,

It is a crappy rochester Q-Jet it has not been rebuilt I put it on my buddy's car seemed to work OK but put it back on mine and it does not work as well. I can see that it is getting gas as for getting enough i don't know lol.

The jets were set at 2 1/2 had them at 3 1/2 but ran worse I know the plugs are not the best would that have a lot to do with it?

thanks for the help and that is one killer looking car you got in your pic nice job

Well this is the thing the plugs that were in the motor that is in he car now were golden brown looked normal. But some were broke so i used the plugs from my original motor witch were oil covered from bad valve seals but at the time they were all i had. Now they worked ok for about 2 days of starting the car and checking things over. As i have not been driving the car just a project right now.

So as for the plugs there are about 4 from the old motor that were wiped off as like said there was a lot of oil deposites on them. And the other 4 plugs are golden brown normal.

I did realize that one plug wire boot is a bit burned from the headers but the burn does not go all the way threw thr boot but will change it anyways.

Thanks for the help
