got the 350 going today, took me a couple hours to finish the exhaust then it fired right up with the new carb vid here

sounds abit loud to me tho, have to check the headers, make sure i don't have to leak and have to do some carb adjustments and timing but it runs pretty good

Yeah you have an exhaust leak for sure. Don't drive it much untl you see where it's leaking, or you'll blow out the gasket.

after installing the 350 getting the exhaust leak all fixed, now onto my timing and tuning.

going to reset the timing tonight but for now heres the problems i'm sitting with.

vac advance on the dizzy is unplugged and capped, when i set my initial timing at 12deg by moving the dizzy counter clockwise the motor wants to die, when i put the car in gear it stalls and i had a vacuum gauge hooked up to the carb and it bounced around between 10 and 15. i checked for vac leaks and idle is at 1000rpm, go lower it wants to stall.

sounds like this is all related to timing from reading the manual but would like to hear from you guys on this stuff for things i can check. thanks all

You are setting it to 12 before TDC and not after, right?

Looking at the stock timing tab from the front of the motor it's the 12 mark to the left of the 0, am I correct?

edit- got home from work, did some looking around on google "found this"
(BTDC 30 | | | | 20 | | | | 10 | | | | 0 | | | | 10 | | | | 20 | | | | 30 ATDC )

and started messing with it alittle, i reset the timing to 10btdc and made sure the rotor is under the number one wire on the dizzy cap. it fired up but was cold, warmed up to idle and got it to sit at 12btdc with idle around 1000 plugged the dizzy advance back into the carb, i hooked up my vacuum gauge to the carb again and it jumped around pretty good, any idea to why the needle keeps jumping?

didnt try putting the car into gear yet, think im outta gas for now.

I do a lot of searching on google and find these threads that have no end result in them.

I Fixed all my timing issues and stall in gear problems by readjusting my valve lash.

Have yet to drive the car but it goes in and out of gear and idles perfect, even fixed the vacuum gauge jumping.
