Non-detergent oil is what we used back in the 70"s for break in, I would think that is what most of the new break in oils are based on.

They removed the zinc, that is what damon is refering you to. It is for flat tappet cams. If you have a roller cam you don't need to worry!

Agreed, if the motor has a flat tappet cam. Use a zinc (ZDDP) additive or a specific break in oil from Comp or Royal Purple. Otherwise your cam will truly go flat. It used to be we could use Rotella diesel oil but they have robbed all the zinc from that too.

This is important. Look it up, its common knowledge.

Since your engine is not new, you don't need to use break in oil. Rotella does still have zinc, just not the amount of zinc it used to have. I still use Rotella in all my engines, but I use zinc additive, even after they are broken in.

If your engine is not new use your reg oil. I don't buy high milage oil because I change it very often. I add the zddp also.

That Valvoline racing oil is very good stuff, and you can use it without an additive. Not sure why you continue to want to use breakin oil. It's just not used on anything except new engines, or engines with new flat tappet cams. By new cams, I mean BRAND NEW CAMS, not engines with a couple thousand miles or more on their cam.
