Default New Paint- Color Change-

I the process of retoring my '79 Camaro Z28 which i have had from new. I have just been to see the respray to find that the color is a pale yellow and not the Bright Yellow that the car was originally. The sprayers say it is because the modern paint is different. Surely this cannot be correct. Has anyone else had this experience or are the bodyshop spinning me a story

Modern paints are different in that they show more brilliance because of being a base/clearcoat (I'm assuming they used). But the color shade should still be a very close match, and definitely not look pale by comparison. If anything, your original color should look more pale than the repaint due to age and sun fading. But, are you sure the bright yellow you originally had was the original shade? The shop should have a color "chip" in a book for you to look at for comparison.

That's bogus, like 69 said, the paint if anything should be BRIGHTER than the original because of the newer paint, not more faded.

Thank You for the replies, you have told me what I expected to here. The paint shop disagrees and says that because it is water based paint it will be paler in colour. They say they have used the 51L51U paint code, which is supposed to be Bright Yellow. But I would have thought even modern paints would resemble the same colour as the original paint.I'll post some pictures when the body is on the chaisis and the engine is back in
