Depends on how worn and tired your engine is. Normal engine wear is gradual for all the components. If it's worn to where you're losing compression past your rings and the valve seats and guides, then you're likely to experience more loss past the rings (blow by), since the new heads will be nice and tight and the rings won't be.

Yeahh, I should be good then. The guy who rebuilt it said there's at the most like 25k miles on the engine.

I was looking at the 460 hp package on this page: http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_...end_kits.shtml

Are all the componets in this instabable on my engine?

You can't put a 460hp top end package on a stock '81 350. You'll throw a rod first time you take it out.

That's not a "460 h.p. kit".
Description says "Small-Block kits include almost everything you need to duplicate our performance proven Performer RPM 410 hp, 435 hp or 460 hp small-block Chevy Crate Engines".
They're describing "potential" not what is. And technically they aren't including everything to duplicate their crate engine. An upper end kit can't make any accurate h.p. claims without lower end build specs.

Of course. However with a matching compression ratio, the power ratings are going to be similar, albeit not exact.

Well, seeing as how you have limited knowledge on the subject, I suggest that you buy a crate engine and have it installed at a shop.

Yeahh I know, I'm only 16. I just know how to do easy mechanical work, and drive fast and sexy. Where can you buy, lets say like a pre 1970 302, 350 or 396? Like the ones that came in the 1969 camaro ss, and z28's? Cause of the computer control command thing and all the emmisions crap, it really lowered HP.

Haha, yeahh I got money. But then again I'm not looking for the fastest street-legal car in my town, I just want to make it get up and go. Enough to beat any of those new Mustang GTs with 315 HP. Can you buy any like 1967-1969 Camaro SS 350 or 396 engines with the same specs and parts they were made with back then, and would that be street legal with the emissions and crap? Or would it be cheaper to just buy new parts for my engine, and me and my Dad install them or take it to a shop and have them install them?
