Harmonic Balancer wont go on

so i heated up the banlancer and it still wouldnt go on far... i took the timing cover off and i took the pipe and a hammer to the crank gear again... that was the problem the gear moved atleast an inch more so now the cover is on and so is the water pump all i got to do now is try the balancer again... i hope this works
