Harmonic Balancer timing

Default Harmonic Balancer timing

ok so many of you kno9w that my car died while i was driving well the front end is taken apart and the gears for the timing chain are broken so i got new gear new chain a new timing cover and gaskets...the problem with the new cover is that it doesnt have the marker for the harmonic balancer...how will i know if it is timmed correctly do i just put it on as far as it goes or what....any help will be appriciated

First make sure your cam and crank gears are centered propper (top dead center) then put the balancer on and line it up with the pulleys, with #1 one piston at TDC the dist. should be facing #1 in the firing order.

You need to go to an auto supply store, like AutoZone, and buy an aftermarket bolt on timing tab. Make sure the position of the new tab points to the same spot as the factory cover mounted one did. Also, AutoZone will loan out the proper harmonic damper installation tool. DO NOT hammer the damper on, or try to pull it on with your existing crank center bolt.

so i found the part and everything ima hopefully get it on with in the next week or two..i am looking at getting a high output 305 with a 601 compression all my parts will fit and its only 1500 new is that a good motor toget

IMHO i would save and get a good 350, but you can get a decent 350 for $1500 though (turn key). Not saying 305 HO's are junk, just my opinion.

where am i suppose to find one though and then i have to buy the oil tank and all the other parts

Where are you located? all external block parts should interchange between 305ci and 350ci. Around me i can pick up complete running 350's from $500 and up.
