Default distributor timing? or what?

so just recently i started to notice a rattleting sound on my car right hand side, around the distributor, at first it was when i let go of hte gas but now its doing it almost all the time, i'm not sure waht it is but i'm guessing its the distributor, i'm planing on replacing it but not for now,.. i'm broke... but i, outa my ignorance, believe it comes from the distributor mostly because it sounds somewhat like a spark or something so i thought it might be the timing on the distributor to be off or just about waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy off, or ti could also be on the cylinders 6 or 8, anyways i try to check everything on my car as often as i can and often i notice thickdeposits of carbon on the spark plugs but not in all of them. what do you guys think it maybe? might it be related?,
does anyone have the most remote idea of what it could be? sorry if it is a poor description,

does anyone know the original distributor set up (timing) on the LM1 350 engine

Timing error does not cause the distributor to make noise. If you want to check the ignition timing by the bookyou need to use a timing light. Fouled plugs are caused by many things. Including bad plugs, no spark to the plug, wrong fuel mixture, wrong gap, wrong plug type, bad rings, bad valve seals, blown gasket, etc.. If the distributor is actually making noise, it could be that the distributor itself is bad, or not properly tightned and allowing it to move. This will also mess up your timing.
If I am reading correctly in between the lines, you have two adjacent cyliders fouling plugs (6 & 8), assuming the plugs are getting spark, you may then want to check compression to verify the state of the head gasket.

alriht tx,
yeah sorry i wasn't too clear i was too sleepy while writing, yeah most of the deposits in the 6 cylinder actually, i'm guessing the gasket or the rign are blown or something, but also acording the repair manual of the car the color im getting on the plugs is due to the plugs getting too hot, I"m using bosch platinum, (as far as i know platinum dont need to be gaped right?) so im was thinking on going with colder plug, but agian would this make that rathleing noice? oh and the distsributor isnt lose, i checked,

on the otehr hand i've also thought on a good distributor for my car, an msd probably, but there are way too many, do you recomend any>?

your plugs still need to be gapped to the stock spec, unless you switch to a higher power ignition, then maybe a little wider gap than stock. many problems, including bad gas, could cause a knock in the engine, but if you're getting a rattling you should check loose bolts anywhere in that area, a loose mount on the egr could cause a rattle, random piece of trash or rock bouncing around on top of the rockers under the valve covers, lots of possibilities.... you can get a $15 stethescope from the parts store and trace the sound to an exact location for better troubleshooting
