Default How can I tell if my distributor/timing is off?

I just put in a 350 in my 77 and am trying to figure out what to do. When I get on my motor it starts to ping (rattle noise) above 45 mph. Also when I shut the car off it will studder when engine is shut off. And it only does this when the motor is warmed up.

My father changed the distributor position when he replaced the tranny one or two clicks but can't quite remember the exact amount. He moved it back but I still think it's all off still.

Can anyone confirm that this sounds like the timing is off and there is a problem with distributor position?

I hope this make sense. Thanks!

When it's hot can you start your car up right after you shut it off?

Try using a timing light, then you will know what you got.

It's very hard to read the markings.
