Ya, sometimes I would forget to pinch or disconnect. I would time it anyways, just had to stay away from the throttle.
I have a summit distributor, there is some sort of adjustment by sticking a 3/32 allen wrench in the vacuum pot. What adjustment is that for?

That's for adjusting how and when the vacuum advance comes in. If you don't know how to fiddle with timing and a timing light, best to keep it set to the starting adjustment that's recommended (if they give you one).

All there is is a course and finer setting. Your saying keep it course. I have a timing light.

Dang it, the hoses are correct. I confirmed it with the install sheet for the carb. The only other thing I can think of is the EGR. I bought a new one, it came with a bunch of washers. I put the biggest open one for a 350.

I went back and pinched the vacuum advance hose at idle. I know there isn't suppose to be vacuum at idle but it does quite down a bit. Bad vacuum advance?

Not absolute that there wouldn't be vacuum coming from the timed port, but generally it's not to be expected. Maybe something is cracking the throttle open a little. Out of curiosity, with the engine off, look down the carb and see if the butterflies are all the way seated shut. Do you feel tension at the throttle linkage from the gas pedal? The carb may be getting yanked open a little if the pedal linkage is too tight.

I unhooked the throttle cable a while ago. There is plenty of slack on the cable.

My cousin took my carb, he thinks it's something to do with the shafts binding. Butterflys are fine though. He thought it was weird too but unless I put a bunch of spring on or run a cable to the cab, I can grab the top of the carb and twist it towards the radiator about an 1/8", comes down about a 100 rpms.

Yeah, if you can bring down the idle by hand like that, then something's gotta be binding up with the carb.
