267 kickdown adjustment?
so, out for a chew in the new ride (1981 camaro 267 auto) and i noticed that when i mat the throttle, it climbs slowly to speed. could this be a kickdown adjustment? i did notice putting it into drive, it went no where, then pulled it out of drive and back a hair, and it stated to go, clicked back into drive and it was fine. that sounds like a shifter linkage adjustment for that, is it possible that a kickdown adjustment is needed as well? anyone here done this adjustment before, what should i look for?

With the engine off, have someone else bury the gas pedal to the floor and hold it. Your kickdown cable should be pulled all the way out. If you can still pull it forward at the carb linkage, adjust it.
Also, is your modulator on the trans hooked up to a vacuum source on the intake manifold? The modulator controls shift points.

I would not use the rug as a stopper is run a hand static adjust. That ratchet is going to be clicking as you take the bell crank off the linkage or use the arm and just WOT the arm open full lock.
Now you have a full throw and the rug or floor mat is out of the loop of a full throw at the passing gear.
No, the adjust is for the pass, not an idle. So, like Cam said, if you can find the arm is not slotted or hangs up, then call it the linkage.
If the linkage works fine, then the valve body is slow or a plunger is goo or dirty where it takes time to send the oil to lock up the clutch pack.
Check the trans oil level = HOT. This way, it could be just low on oil and that was it.

you know what, after the the trip home, all is well. i think it was just sticky, from sitting for 8 years. i did notice however that the shifter linkage is slightly out, pulling it in to Drive from park, it does not engage. but pull it just past D then back again, engages it.
but as far as the kickdown goes, all is well. she got up to 120 KPH with no issues, and cruised on the highway quite well.
