Exclamation 1980 z/28 long tube install ?'s

So if i get a set of long tubes are they going to bolt right up? IM pretty sure i'll need a different alternator bracket but as far the the lower a-arm goes do you have to modify anything?

Depends on the brand. Most decent quality headers will have the correct brackets to allow for locating your alternator, etc., and will also clear the suspension, and starter, etc.
Before purchasing any headers you should check the supplier's application charts to see what comes with them, and what mods might be needed to install them. Most have a tech line, or tech area at their web site where you can ask questions too.

I was just looking on summit racing. So I should probably stay away from the summit racing brand headers?

Isn't your alternator on the passenger side? The main mounting bolt for the alternator goes straight into the head, and the exhaust manifolds/headers have nothing to do with it. Now if you had a drivers side setup like the 1968 and older where the alternator was mounted on the exhaust manifold horn, then you'd have a custom mount issue with headers.

If you go with the summit brand, the modification is really very easy.I had to do it on my 81,all you need to do is cut 2 notches where the tubes come down, takes about 5 minutes with a dremel and cut off wheel. As for the a/c bracket, just get a longer bolt than what comes with the headers and go to the hardware store and get a small piece of pipe,i think i got 1" pipe roughly 2 or 2 1/2" long cant remember for sure, but i just painted the pipe black, put it between the bracket and header and then ran the longer bolt in,actually looks decent,i think you can also buy a different bracket, but the way i did it only cost me about $3 and my car is'nt a show car by a long shot haha.

Hello i put a set of Hooker Super Comp long tube 1 7/8 headers on my 1980 Z and then heat wrapped them as well. Is there some kind of bracket that i can put on to get a AC pump on there with out too much trouble,..can some one please help me with this. If you are not going to install AC back in the car,.the Hooker Super Comps are a great header and go in fairly easy. Also i was thinking of changing my intake to make more power,..does any one know if i would get more from a low rise dual quad intake then my Air Gap,.thanks. Any one tell me how to get a picture of my car on here??

Denny
