Alright, so I bought an 81 Camaro that runs like a dream. The previous owner swapped out the factory V6 for a newerish 350 mated to a M5 tranny from an '89 firebird.

Does anybody have any idea what transmission this is? Is this a common swap? The clutch pedal weighs about 400 lbs - I need to adjust it (make it lighter for daily driving), but I want to know what I am digging into beforehand. Thanks in advance.

 

That would be a T5. But don't go beating hard on the thing, there's a reason why GM never put the T5 behind a 350.

 

Alright then, 6 speed here we come...

 

how much trouble is it going from that t5 to a t56 in these cars?
