I have a 1980 camaro, with a 4 speed sag in it. can i disconnect the reverse lock out linkage so i dont have to put in reverse to remove the key?

Yes you can. Remove the linkage rod that's connected to the arm at the base of the steering column (inside the engine compartment). Then hold that arm in the "up" position with a wire to a screw or something else that's fixed to the firewall. Be sure to remove the other end of the linkage rod from the shift linkage so it doesn't get hung up.
