Default 1980 shifter problem

I have a 1980 Z28 and I fixed floor pan issue, while doing that I am rebuilding different pieces associated with pulling out everything it seems like. I have the shifter out and it's never been good feeling. When you push over to ratchet it's hard and it just don't really lock. I have it out and cleaned real good and the piece on the shifter shaft that locks it is riding on the housing I would call it, and wore bad. Is this rebuildable or just get another one? I have a few wrecked TA's and a camaro I'm going to see what they look like but if it would be better to buy new one I will. If you vote new one what is a good one. Still have a th350 tranny with a 468 BB, or 466.9 whichever you prefer. Lol

You can try the shifter and see how it works out for you.Or you can always go an aftermarket shifter like B & M Quicksilver or a Hurst Quarter stick. Both will fit in a stock console.

If you have another properly working shifter, I'd install it. While you are at it, I'd clean and lubricate the cable. Once installed, I would attach the cable to the trans w/o the retaining hardware. Have someone move the shifter to first gear, then without disturbing the arms on the transmission, remove the cable. Check to make certain the trans is fully engaged in first gear. Next check neutral and park using the same method. Some may say it's not necessary, but I've seen guys have issues with their trans with shifter misalignment.

Thanks I had one that was the ratchet type in a wrecked late 70's. I thought it was a Berlinetta but it had the ratchet type shifter. Thanks for the cable idea I wasn't sure the best way to make sure it was lined up correctly. I got it cleaned and some paint on it now got to grease and stick in. Hoping to get the interior and front suspension back in today. Thanks for the help.
