Rear suspension ideas?
I have recently purchased a 79 Camaro. I bought it as a rolling shell no engine, no transmission, no interior. My plan is to turn it into a fun track day car that I can still drive here and there. I would be doing all the work myself as far as fabrication goes. I would like to take it to race tracks like road atlanta and atlanta Motorsport park, etc. I don’t plan on doing hardly any drag racing but I wouldn’t want the car to do horrible if I decided to go once in a Blue moon.
But my question is, which rear suspension is the best for what I would like to do. I don’t think I will keep the leaf spring setup. I’m mainly looking at a 4 link setups. But a lot of the information out there is for setting up drag cars or low riders. I mean I have found enough information I could tackle it. That leads to the next question run a parallel 4 link or triangulated 4link. Not alot of people talk about the benefits for my application.
Another option that I recently started to consider. Is an independent rear suspension. I’ve research a few of the aftermarket companies that make kits, but they cost too much. I was thinking about adapting a sixth gen Camaro rear subframe to the 2nd gen, then installing fully adjustable control arms. Wondering if anyone as heard or seen someone doing this. Does it sound like a good idea. I can purchase a complete subframe minus the differential and brake calibers for $150.
any ideas or info would be appreciated.
