Default New summer project

Hey guys. I just picked up a new to me camar for a summer time toy, a little bit about the car it's an 81 t top car. I was told it was a z28 but I'm not sure, it don't have the z fenders or lower lovers. The guy I got it from tried his had at paint and I don't think he was that good. But the body is fairly solid. The thing I like is that some one put the earlier style dash in it. My plans are to put my 454 with the turbo 350 trans that I have for now. I have 2 spots to fix on the floor. I have the car sitting at my buddies shop to fix the floor and take care of some of the interior. It has no carpet or head liner and he does interior for a living. He has ordered the carpet already. I need to find some wheels and tires and some other parts. My plan is to get it up and running ASAP and drive it for the summer.

Looks like a good starting point. You going to repaint it? Also it looks like the hood isn't lined up very well.

The hood might not be lined up right, but I have a 4" cowl hood for it slits getting changed. For the summer I think I'll just drive it. Maybe I'll start on fixing the body work and possibly paint it over the winter.

Looks pretty good, and straight too! I think I'd get the mechanical done before any body or paint work! No fun working over freshly painted fenders doing engine work!

I would say no its not a Z. But that doesnt matter. Z28 was just thicker sway bars and a couple horsepower. The rest was looks. I consider myself the guy when it comes to spotting late second gens. Yours has 80-81 Z grills and a 78-79 hood scoop. 78's had a mesh grill in the scoop. 79s were faux mesh and no air got through. The 80-81 hoos was rear opening air induction. If your car was an 80 Z there would be a actuator on the gas pedal for the air induction hood.

Nice car. Build it the way you want. I have basically the same car with a ton of z28 parts and only the best spotter could call me out.

Nice project. I'm with BB427, do the mechanics first. Its really a bummer when you scratch fresh paint.

Thanks guys. I'm really excited about getting going on the camaro. I'll be over at the shop tomorrow so ill grab some more pictures of it then. My total plan is to get it running like it should before I start any paint or body work.

Well I worked on the car yesterday. The carpet finally came in, so that is now in the car. I love the look of brand new carpet. I also got the center console in, it still needs to be dyed cause it is out of a red interior. The buddy that got the carpet for me is making the headliner for me today. I am hoping to put the motor and trans in the car on Monday. I am on the hunt for some of the t-top trim that is missing from the car so enough talking here are some pictures.
