Finally got my ‘79 Camaro into my garage. Looking forward to doing the triage of what’s wrong.

I am am planning on tearing it all the way down and then putting it together somewhat similar to yours. This is my first project so I am going to take it slow.

 

The make a game plan and stick to it .I have a number of discontinued parts on mine. Such as a Vette Brakes C-4 Corvette Suspension. A suggest way is to make the car safe to drive first. Then go the springs you like. I would use Z-28 springs up front , Firebird WS-6 springs rears with stock bushings.1 1/4 and 7/8 rear sway bars with polyurethane grease-able bushings and you choice of shocks to start.Good luck to you.

Consider dismantling the front suspension first. Even using a spring compressor (Performance Tool W80554), a floor jack still came into play for me. Without the engine in, it's possible the jack would have just lifted the car.

 

Finally got the engine pulled. While it’s getting machined I am going to rebuild the front suspension, any suggestions?

 

Depends on budget and goals. I'm going all aftermarket and C5 brakes so I don't really have input, except that I think re-bushing is a serious PITA so you may want to use a shop with experience.
