Installing a LS1 in my 1977 Camaro

Just a little update. I finally got around to wiring up my OBDII plug. My son brought his tuner and computer over so we could see what was happening with the motor. Everything looked fine on the readouts.
Some had questioned whether I would get an accurate water temp reading by mounting the temp sender in the block above the starter as opposed to in the head. We found that as the motor was warming up, the gauge in my car initially read about 30 degrees cooler than the head reading of the factory sender. However, as the engine warmed up, this difference diminished. Once the car was fully warmed up, there was only a couple degrees difference between my dash gauge reading the the factory sender reading. Close enough that it was within the sender error margin of either sender.

I've got to locate a new spot to sense temp on the 327 in my gasser too. It's got a hole in the head, but way smaller than the old heads. Not sure if I adapted up in size that I'd get a prroper reading.

Since I did the LS1 install, I have only driven the car for short trips mostly in town. When I checked the mileage, I have been disappointed as it was in the 11's. Made we wonder if there was something wrong with the tune.
Since it was sunny and in the mid 60's here today, I decided to take an interstate drive to check the mileage at speed. I filled it up at the same store at the beginning and the end of the trip to be consistent. From Salisbury, I drove north on I85 to US 52 to Winston-Salem. There I merged onto I40 east to I73 back to I85 and then back to Salisbury. Total of 110 miles by my GPS at 10 over the speed limit. Mostly between 75 and 80MPH. 33.9MPG!!!! Guess there isn't anything wrong with my tune!!!
Obviously, the motor needs to be at operating temp with fewer stoplight starts. It sounds so good that it is too tempting to make some noise.

That's awesome highway mileage! I've never been too worried about stop and go mileage, as I tend to be a bit heavy footed in town. Highway mileage that's bad concerns me, as it limits road trips.
My 427 gets about half that mileage on the highway, and I used to be happy with that. Now I'm not so sure.

This is my first post on the forum, I have a 4th gen and have been lurking and reading, but just registered today and went through all 13 pages of this thread.
What an inspiration! Great project!
Do you have any photos of the interior you can share? I'm really curious what it looks like, particularly the dash and the gauges.
