Not sure I'd use truck bed liner for the underside of your car. It's plenty tough, but it will seal up things you don't want sealed. I'd go with POR15 myself.

I have POR on mine and if I had my choice I'd use epoxy. The POR is dull and chalkiy and there is rust bubbling through.

I thought POR15 was supposed to encapsulate rust and mix with it to neutralize it? If it's dull and chalky the surface was not clean enough or smooth enough. I put it on my cars and it's still shiny after a couple years of driving the '71. The Austin wasn't quite as shiny when applied and it's a bit flatter finish. Inside the floors the Austin was really clean, so the floors are really shiny.

They say the chalkiness comes from the lack of any UV in the paint. It is a encapsulator but it doesn't bond or mix with rust. It just locks out oxygen, not allowing one of the key ingredients for rust. I'm not happy with it is all I'm saying. Epoxy primer is literally spraying glue. POR is tough as far as scratches go, that I'm certain of. But when I was in there yesterday I could see little bits of flaky rust starting to poke through on my frame rails. Could have been bad application, I didn't do it and can only take the guys word that sold me the car. I was planning to scuff and reshoot mine after I'm done building.

I rolled and brushed both of my cars. Doesn't look as pretty as sprayed, but better coating.

Well I've been doing some research and what not. It seems like a lot of people are using POR15 I don't know if thats just because it's popular or if it's cause it's actually really good. But I've been reading a lot of good things about the epoxy primers that are out these days. So what I'm thinking about doing put on some epoxy primer to seal it up really good. I'm looking into a way to spray it upside down though I think I've found a solution but still figuring my options. and for the protection part like to keep rocks and what not from eventually scratching through and cause rust. I'm going to coat it with bed liner. I'm not going to spray it on so thick like you would on a truck bed. Cause I agree with 1971BB427 there are things under there that ya don't want all plugged up. I really like the texture of the rattle can bed liners(I'm post a pic of my sample I sprayed) So What does everyone think about that way of doing it. I'm open to hear everyones thoughts on this.

Update on the progress: I have been sandblasting like a mad man. I just finished the rear differential and leafs. I bought one of those blast cabinets for the little parts I've been blasting everything, everything... everything. I'll post pictures tomorrow sometime. I've really been working on the car everyday now and not just weekends I realized that it wasn't realistic to reach my goal by just working on it weekends since I only have 10 more weekends till July.

My opinion is your doing a great job. Regardless of what you put down. I'm sure its gonna be a fair weather car from now on anyhow. Mine will never see hard rain again. The only water tha touches it will be for a bath. I'm guessing your on the same path as me. So, it won't be critical what ever you use. I just don't like the finish of mine. Before you do anything, let me get you some close ups of mine. The PO on mine said its been close to 20yrs since mine was done. I can't remember if POR 15 has been around that long though. But if it has I have a perfect example of what to expect.

The other thing that is drawing me to epoxy is the cost. I got a gallon of SPI for around 140 shipped to my door. That makes two sprayable gallons. POR can't compete with that. I did use Chassis saver on my sub frame and rad support. Lower cost, I think it doesn't leave a finish like POR either. Brushed on it is less glossy.

My rad support came out looking like it was Rhino lined because I sprayed it too thick. If I could repeat that I would, but can't be positive it will turn out the way I want. Looks great though.

Be sure to put bolts or plugs in any open holes, and you'll be fine.

I love sandblasting stuff. Nothing like getting it to looks better than new, and a nice base for paint. I have a pressure pot, but I need to get me a cabinet.
