CRU!NCH TIME - 73 Z28 Build
Let the fun begin.
Started in pretty standard fashion. Removed the nasty old drums and axles followed by the backing plates. I put new axle seals in as well while I was there.

The bits and pieces

After I transferred the sensor rings off the Trans Am axles.
Here is all three for comparison

Here is the backing plate/caliper mount with the ABS sensor installed. there is a clearance issue with the sensor. (thanks Damon for that info) a simple grind is a quick fix. For my install I chose to have the calipers behind the axle so I used the Right backing plate on the left side of the car.

before

after

after I put the axles in

The sensor and ring

After it's all put together

I've read that some people used spacers to center the caliper to the rotor. but when I installed them there is only 1 millimeter from being perfectly center. I'm not going to even worry about it.

Of course there is an issue with the driver side shock in the same space as the caliper wants to be. I'm going to move the shock mount to the inside of the leaf spring.

Kind of like so

I was going to flip the original bracket upside and modify it to make it work. but I figured it would be cooler to make a new bracket and weld it on.
I made one out of cardboard to see how it would work.

Here is how it's going to fit together

I don't have the sway bar on yet so I'm hoping it will clear. should be fine. I'm going to weld on the bracket today. Next will be making the parking brake functional. I already have the cables installed I need to make some brackets for those yet. Then It's time to start on installing the dash.

Your welcome for the heads up. I've see a few guys use two lefts to get around the shock issue. Hrd to find someone sell just the left though. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I eliminated the stock e brake pedal so I'll need all kinds of stuff to get mine working. Looks good.
Thanks guys, i'm Actually very happy how it all came out. It does have that factory look which in this case works pretty good. But actaully bad436z28 I'm going to have 4 wheel anti-lock disc brake system on the car. I have more pic to post when I get time
As a Michigan guy I hate ABS but respect what your doing. In the snow the ABS is just worthless. Not as bad as traction control though, that crap will get you stuck in a heart beat. My Grand Prix has both. If I get stuck in the snow and don't remember to shut it off. The computer pulls so much timing out I don't have the power to get out.
wow jmez28 thats gonna be sweet, wish i had the ambition to try something like that on mine, its gonna be bad a** no dought, probably the first second gen i have seen with 4 wheel antilock brakes ever.keep up the good work im watching this one for sure.
Yeah I love the abs. It kept me from having a pretty bad accident once. Well I rolled the vehicle but I was able to avoid hitting the other vehicle that pulled out in front of me. I was driving my mom's 99 Subaru forester and was going about 70 mph when a red car pull out in my lane. I slammed on the brakes. because of abs I was still able to steer the vehicle and avoid creaming the driver side door of the red car. however as a 17 yr old I of course over corrected and an tipped the car over in the ditch don't worry i was fine, the forester wasn't pretty ungly after that though.
Just for fun here's a pic of the beast. (the mirror was jb welded back on)

I think in the snow stopping with or without abs is a B#### lol. but anyways here is are some pic of the shock bracket done.
Just tacked on

Tested fitted and then burned in it.

Painted

finished. I was going to cut the original shock bracket off but I decide to keep it around unless it gets in the way.

And thats all of now folks.
I started on installing the Dash.
Had to chop some of the dash

I'll post more later
