I have 5 in mine. I know how you feel. I just want to see what I can do with an LS. So far its gonna be a turbo 5.3 with a Megasquirt ECU running the show. I can build it on the cheap side for about 3g. I hate myself for not looking into it when I was building my last motor. 3 grand and make 1000 hp.

I'm not sure how a driver can use so much HP thee days, unless it's mostly a track car. I decided when I was building the 427 in my Camaro, and the 327 in my Austin that they would be quick, but very long term reliable, rather then monster power.
Both of my engines were very reasonably priced builds, with the intent to keep them low buget, but strong. I've got about $1200 into the 427 at around 450hp, and $2,000 into the 327, (including purchase price when I bought it) at around 400hp I'm guessing. The 427 has proven to be extremely reliable, but not enough years or miles to know yet on the 327.

yeah i know what u mean 650 hp is handful enough, and 680 ft lbs of tourque at the engine,i only had it for 3 weeks in my 87 iroc and i quit driving it,was starting to twist my body and it shattered my t-tops with subframe connecters.hope my 80 holds up alot better without t-tops.there gets a point when enough power is enough and 1000 hp engine wont be very reliable long term, and u can only put so much power to the ground without completely modifying the whole car,i probably wont even be able to keep 583 rwhp to the ground.i know i couldnt in my 87 irocz

You need a parts car. Lots of misc stuff you'll need.

The 1000hp is just a number. I went 9's in the Nova so the new goal is 8's. That is a loose number too. I don't even have a drag chassis. I read a build not that long ago. It was a 5.3 with stock guts. Two $700 ebay turbos, a set of heads and a cam. They were well over 1500hp when they stopped. The motor lived but they were having issues with something I can't remember off the top of my head. On a tear down they found out it was actually a 4.8.

WOW i dont need that kind of horsepower i just end up getting myself killed for the second time, like the say twice is a charm.no but really if i can run 10s i be more than happy enough.even 11s would be ok with me.i never intensionally built my engine to race, just told my buddy thats an engine builder to build me a dependable engine with good power and this is what he came up witha 436 cubic inch small block making almost 700 hp.it wasnt in my plans it just happened.
