I had Baker Engineering in Spring Lake do my heads. They had a motor sitting there that was purple with pink polka dots. It was a freshening for a local circle track guy who said "paint it whatever."

No they are a engineering type place. The origional guy started with engines back in the 70's. He retired and recently passed away after falling off a latter at his home in FL. It was big news here. Anyhow, the company went on under his son I believe and now they have an offshore powerboat team. They had a twin opposing (boxer engine) turbo diesel they were working on for tanks once while I was there. They have there hands in crazy stuff like that. They still do alot of local guys race motors though.

well got some work done today, sanded most of the day trying to get it straight, gonna need much more sanding,so i applied another coat of primer and a light guide coat,so tomarrow i will be at it again, only gonna be a high of 24 tomarrow but i think the sanding will help me keep warm, either way it wont stop me working on my car its an addiction sometimes, about another 6 hours of sanding my hood should be perfect and ready for the cowl hood scoop.the first picture shows where i had to use a little spot putty found some tiny pits in the metal if i can see it then it needs to be fixed, wanna do this right the first timeName: 002-1.jpg

Like I mentioned previously, if you're putting a cowl hood on there then you need to stop sanding and priming. You can't glass anything to primer. Fiberglass needs to go to bare metal, so all your work is for naught if you're planning to glass it in.
Lay the cowl scoop on the hood and mark around it with a marker. Strip to metal and several inches outside the outline too. Drill the cowl hood for pop rivets, but don't pop them in place; simply put them in each hole to hold it. Once all the holes are drilled and it's ready, mix up some JB Weld or whatever good epoxy you want and apply it to the mating surface of the cowl scoop. Set the scoop in place and install all the pop rivets, then start securing them.
Once all the rivets are done you can wipe off the excess epoxy and start laying up fiberglass matting. I used 3" wide cloth starting with one layer overlapping the edge of the cowl scoop. Then overlap that cloth each direction once, and repeat once more. Cut strips full length down each side, then overlap the front edge to the sides. Continue to build it until you've got a few layers, then let it dry and you can rough shape it. Be very careful to really saturate the glass cloth with resin; any places not saturated will create air pockets and they will be weak spots.
Once it's roughed and ground smooth, I spread Duraglass over the first layer. It's really very hard filler, and will add strength to the blended surface. After this you can either give it some filler of your choice, or epoxy prime and then fill and sand to smooth.
One other thing before you start any of this. Don't even think of glassing in any scoop that isn't a fiberglass scoop. The new plastic scoops will simply crack at the adjoining surfaces, so it has to be glass to work with fiberglass.

Use the cloth. Mat is for repairing holes or building up glass products. The cloth is thinner and better for glassing in scoops to metal. I did my old scoop in the 80's and when I sold the hood last year the glass blending was still not cracking, even after the frontend wreck.
Not sure about the laws in your state, but I can tell you from experience that you'll regret going too high with a scoop. When I raced mine I ran a snorkel scoop and also drove it on the street. It really got old trying to see things obscured by that tall scoop. As soon as I stopped racing and took the tunnel ram off I sold the hood and went with a 4" L88 style cowl.
