Damon I think your metal skills are above most. I'm sanding mine down and finding that someone proir sanded to bare metal in many spots. Thats where I'm finding my adhesion problems. In places that I hit factory prime or paint I have found very good adhesion. Remember Flash rust occurs immediatly.

I had a paint problem on this corner of the roof. never knew there was a dent here. When I sanded I saw signs of flash rust that had not been removed. None of this was visible thru primer. Not until paint had aged.

yeah i think im just gonna scuff mine prime at and block sand and block sand and block sand until im sanding in my sleep.LOLAND MAYBE A LITTLE BODY FILLER I THINK MY PANELS ARE PRETTY STRAIGHT,this car never had any adhesion problems it rusted from the back side in,i would say for 31 years it was a darn good paint job,the paint has never peeled anywhere.i could probably buff it and bring it back to its original shine.

Every time I block sand my Austin I find more little imperfections, so I fill them and start again. Then block sand some more, prime some more, fill a bit, lock sand some more. Seems like a never ending process for me.
Started block sanding again today and I've got half dozen places now that needed small spot fills to blend them in. A day of sanding and filling, with more primer. Tomorrow more primer and then block sanding again!
I'm in awe of people who go through each step once and get it right the first time!

yeah me too i have to block sand three or four times to get it right i always find them imperfections too, takes me forever to get the car ready for paint, what i do is run tape line about 12 inches down from top the whole length of the car, when thats done,i do the same thing all over again until that side is done, then i check it again, and again if needed.LOL

Vall are you sanding your epoxy? If your chasing waves and small stuff. You should have two thick coats of 2k on there. Figure the the last coat will wind up on the floor. They make high build 2k as well. SPI's 2k goes on like other peoples high build. Thats what I have on the shelf. Another thing you can try is polyester primer. Its basically sprayable body filler and goes on like pudding. Either way I wouldn't use the epoxy for anything other than a sealer. If you already have 2k then disregard me.

Thank you for the compliment. I used the term flash rust because I couldn't think of the term I needed. I still don't really know what to call it. There were dozens of tiny pits all over the quarter. All of them were rust. When I blasted I could pull the gun away and work just the paint off, leaving a brown rusty panel. The whole panel was this way like bare metal that sat outdoors and rusted over but not real heavy.

WOW I actually have a pic. Name: 026-1-1-1.jpg

That was under, what looked like solid paint? You are lucky you found it. I'm sure it would have showed up by hand also. I can feel soft paint as I sand.

bad If you decide to scuff and spray, the most important thing is to clean the paint prior to sanding. Scrub it with wax remover or laq thinner.
