I bought a new cowl for my hood. It should be here on the 14th. Its only a 2'' high one. I love the way it makes the hood look.

 

i love those cowl scoops, 2"'s is good, i would go as high as 4" but no higher. 6" is just pushing it lol. can't wait to see it on

i love them cowls too,i have one on the hood i got with my car its 4 inch and pop riveted on,so all i gotta do is some glass work,you will like it i love mine,are u gonna cut an opening for ur air breather to go thru.

 

I think I might haft to if I'm going to fit the high rise intake I want later on.
So is it best to pop rivet it down and then blend it in with fiber glass? I've never done much more than some minor rust hole patch work.

 

yeah just pop rivit it down then fiberglass it all smooth its pretty easy and looks good too,some guys have just used the fiberglass resin,but i would recommend using some cloth too for strength because it flexes alot there.

 

I've done a ton of glass work, and it's easy to do. Get all your mounting holes pre-drilled, and make sure you have all the paint sanded off the hood, as well as the bottom lip of the scoop. Use an epoxy based panel adhesive to glue the scoop to the hood, then rivet the scoop down before the glue sets up. Once it's set, grind the edges of the scoop to taper it towards the hood. Build up staggered widths of fiberglass mat, not cloth, mat is a lot stronger since it has multi-directional fibers. Start with a skinny strip around the scoop, only on the hood to build up the height difference. Then build up wider and wider rows (at least 2 more layers) spanning the scoop and the hood. Don't even think of using only resin with no mat, you'll have a crack the first time you slam the hood. Resin has no strength without the fiberglass.

I was trying to figure out why my wipers where not working. The motor was shot to say the least.....

Nothing like waiting for the fedex truck to drive up with my cowl......lol

 

wow i would say so,that thing was defenately shot,hahaha.cant wait to see that cowl on ur hood bet its gonna be sharp.

 

So my cowl finally came in today. I sat it down on the hood, but it looks somewhat small...... What do you guys think?
