71 468/T56 Project
For sure, I wanna come hang in there. I will someday have a lathe in my shop. Maybe a few years but I did see a benchtop one for under a grand. I need to get my drill press home at least, but I don't have room right now.
I like the warehouse feel of your place for sure.

I've got one of the Chinese import combo lathe/mills, and it's good for most of my projects, but definitely lacking in tight tolerance work. I can turn out bushings and such, or turn down material when I need to. I also use the mill more often as a drill press than I use my drill press. It gets by for most of what I need.
I love my 2 lathes! You really dont wanna know what they cost me tho!
So I am sitting at thanksgiving a few years back talking to my cousin and her husband who own a machine shop. So I am telling him I was looking for a lathe to build some driveshafts and stuff for my 4x4's?? So he says had had some and he would make me a deal???? So I take my buddy who is a Machineist and we load up the goosneck drive 300 miles and when we get there I walk in he had about 20 lathes he was getting rid of! He said take what you want!!!
So we load up a 3jaw LaBlonde that is about 60inch and a caddilac 4jaw that is maybe 80inches?
Cost me fuel and lunch for my buddy!! But I missed out on the mill

Holy crap! not sure which one the free 80" lathe or the brakes. Then the free 60" takes it. I want one bad.
And Vall if given a choose I will always just a mill as a drill press. We have 7 Clausing (sp) mills at work and a drill press in the middle. I only use the press if the hole doesn't have to be exactly where I want it. I spend a lot of time drilling hardened capscrews from H13 tool steel. Having the table in exactly the right spot so I dont drill of center is important.
