Default ZERO OIL PRESSURE

So there i was, driving my camaro and watching the gauges frequently. i glance over and i had zero oil pressure instantly. i immediately pulled over and had the car towed to my house. i pulled the motor and found gasket material in the oil pump filter and there was a large score on the inside cover that holds in the pump gears. one of the main bearings were scratched up a bit but not totally spun. i think i caught it in time before there was much damage. has anyone had a similar experience and what may have caused this? your feedback is appreciated. thanks

it sounds like a complet rebuld job, well almost.

hows the crank jornals look?
check the cam bearings also.
did you hear a tap tap noise?
did you run hot or smoke blow off the engine. those signs are never good.

you did the right thing

Replace the oil pump and the oil pump drive, if the crank is not scored, replace all the bearings & you should be OK, maybe. All sorts of crud gets caught in the pump screen, that is the reason it is there; the problem is when it goes through the screen.

it looks as if the intake gasket got sucked thru. i ordered a new oil pump and hardened drive for it. i also ordered a new gasket kit rod and main bearings. the crank looked good but i sent it out to be machined anyway. everything else looks good.

thanks for your input,
rob
