Default when using headers

if you put on headers, wont you fail the inspection in a state that has inspection?i want to go to headers and do away with the smog pump and converter?

my 75 camaro is older than most people i see working at the inspection place,we have not gone to the tail pipe inspection where they check the output of your emmissons.

On a 75 you shouldnt have to follow the emmissions, unless you live in Ca. as long as it has mufflers you should be fine, oh yeah what state are you in?

to be legal you will have to still use the AIR (smog pump) and cat, you can run headers with them intact

I depends on where you live. You can get headers with the air tubes in them. Look for ones that say C.a.r.b. approved. If its good in CA. its good everywhere.

i live in tx, i dont mind hooking up the smog pump,i just didnt think you could run headers with a cat coverter or that the converter kinda cancels out any thing you gain from using headers.

If you still have the cat that uses the pellets in them then yes the converter does not flow good, you could use a high flow cat and it will be good

The headers will flow better than the stock manifolds. You would be going from two poor flowing items to one poor flowing item. And I second the changing to a free flow cat over the pelet type. I bet if you look at the pelet type just after the inlet pipe will be a big burned spot from the hot exhaust being blocked by burned pelets.

Not sure how it is in your state but in NC anything 25 years and older is just safety inspection and anything 30 years or older is not required to get any inspection.

You prolly wont fail, I have a 81 Camaro with headers, I had 8 inches of peice pipe on the passin side, and 10 inches of peice pipe on the drivers side, with a "Thrush" exhaust. They have them cheap at Advance Auto Parts. If all else fails buy them and keep them on unti the insection is over, then take them off. I live in Ohio. I had a State Trooper inspect me and he looked under and saw them and didnt say anything....Hope it helps.
