Default What does it mean

I'm getting ready to swap rear ends in my 79. I raised up the rear end, and just for giggles, I spun one side, and both tires turned the same direction. After a couple of more tries, only one would spin. I climbed under it and spun the yoke and the Passenger side tire turned. What does that mean? dDo I have a limited slip posi in the car? Or is something in that rear end just f%%%'d up and I should swap out with the 3:42 posi I was going to put in anyway? Thanks, ross

With an open diff, both wheels will spin in the same direction if the torque, or drag is the same between the two. Sounds like you have an open diff and they started out spinning the same direction just because.

If you're going to swap it out anyway, what's the big whoop?

I'm doing the whole rear end. I got a really good deal on the 3:42 posi and a set of heavy duty 5 leaf springs. Aside from that, I don't know squat about the condition of the rear end in the Z...I just know it aint the right one, the guy I bought it from told me that much. So I'm gonna swap the whole thing so when I get my motor and tranny together (I'm really close to that) and put them in, I can drive the car. Even if it's just around the block.
