Picked up a 71 Camaro, ran the numbers and it says it's a 71... Duh! Built in Norwood its original color was Rosewood, all the research I have done states it's a 396 (402) 4 spd car. It also says it's supposed to be (according to the numbers) 375hp??? The other confusing thing is on the body by fisher tag there is no numbers stating weather or not it's an SS? that area in the tag is completely blank? Any ideas? Oh it also has a 70's 12 bolt with what looks like original HD leaf springs and old OLD! "Traction Action" slapper bars.

Ps original motor and teams are gone.

 

The SS code on the trim tag (lower right area) would be Z27. 396 code next to that would be LS3. Does your trim tag have any of these markings?
If not, what "according to the numbers" told you it's an SS or even a 1970 engine option 375hp? The 1971 396/402 had only one rating, 300hp.

 

This is all the info I have off the trim tag. The area where it should say SS or anything is completely blank???

 

.I have seen real ones .and fake ones out there, As long as you are happy with what you have,I would put what ever size big block you want.And what ever badges you want .
