I tried driving my 76 on the freeway for the first time since the rebuild.. Ten minutes into it the motor started popping loudly and repitiously. Anybody know why it did this? Timing is at about 8 degrees and it has a cam, too low?

Could be timing, but could be the ignition circuit. Distributor, coil, etc.

Well hopefully I didn't mess up something internal from driving it at a constant speed or reaching too high of RPMs,motor isn't broken in yet

Saturday:
Local car show had a cruse in my home town. Took the Camaro out. the kids seemed
to love the fact that it looks like a race car. Was very suprised at all the attention I got over her. Seem a lot more people are starting to like the 2nd gen's.

Sunday:
1. Replaced ignition key switch
(Got mad and tore the door panel while throwing tools)
2. Painted the steering Column (blk)
3. Installed new GT Steering Wheel
(Wife got it for me, looks so much better)
4. Installed an painted an old beat up center console.
(Looks better then not having one, hole in carpet)

Went out today and splurged on a new wire feed MIG welder. I'm getting ready to fabricate my subframe connectors and didn't feel comfortable with my Chinese Harbor Freight special for anything that might take some abuse. I found out our company has a discount at the local welding supply house, so I went over and looked at the new Miller 140 Auto Select. After getting the prices for welder, full argon tank, gauges, and cart, I bought one.
Man what a difference between that HF spl. and the Miller! I swear anyone can weld like an expert in a few minutes with the Miller, after just watching the DVD and practicing a little. I really thought my welding skills were poor, but it turns out it was the welder that was the problem.
This will sure make all my projects go so much smoother!

Pulled my valve covers off, noticed a rocker arm was dangling, hopefully that's what the popping sound was, and some of the rocker arms are mixed up and the crank bolt on the damper is stripped
